Is a 4 day workweek possible?

Before the pandemic, when a company wanted to transition to a four-day week, they would do the obvious: remove a day and see what happened. This meant concentrating five days into four, which inevitably reduced the time spent on specific tasks. But in the context of the isolation and lockdowns of the last two years, companies have experimented a lot and their ideas are beginning to better reflect the intent behind the concept: to improve work-life balance. The “four-day work week” now means a condensed schedule, stripped of inefficiencies, says Brian Gorman, principal at Do-Be Associates, a consultancy that helps companies transition to fewer hours. “It’s a metaphor for flexibility.”
